There are no clear distinctions between what is considered an ‘adaptation’ and a ‘conversion’ – however the former is usually considered smaller in size and complexity. Constructive usually carries out adaptations directly for the end user and we are proficient in designing and building home adaptations in conjunction with occupational therapists.
Unlike simple adaptations which are normally limited to a single room or area of a home, conversions are usually greater in size and complexity and will often involve structural alteration and a degree of new build. Consequently a multi-faceted ‘design and build’ team is often assembled for such projects. Constructive is experienced in large conversions and new build adaptations.

Here’s an adapted bathroom completed recently in Chelmsford. Mary suffered a stroke last year and following a stay in hospital, was moved to a reablement hospital in Kent. Of course what the family really wanted was Mary to come home quickly. We arranged Rob Warren of Stanford Wellbeing to carry out an OT assessment quickly and collaboratively designed the adaptations (which needed to be in keeping with the property). These included access ramps and widened doors, through floor lift and adapted shower room. Nash Kumar of Higher Elevation delivered the lift. Mary came home 6 weeks later. The family’s comment?…..absolutely mission accomplished! 🚀
