Why John Ford Group exists

john ford

"John Ford Group was founded because of my own family's experience.

After my mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I saw first hand how the right home adaptations transformed her independence and quality of life. Years later, further adaptations enabled my father to remain living safely in his own home until he was 95.

Those experiences inspired me to create a business that does more than deliver adaptations. We guide families through the entire journey—from clinical advice and funding to design, specialist equipment and coordinated delivery—giving them one trusted team from first conversation to long-term support.

Because I've lived that journey myself, I understand the difference the right home can make."

Frequently Asked Questions

What does John Ford Group do?

We guide people and families through the entire home adaptation journey. From understanding changing needs and exploring funding, through design, specialist equipment and project delivery, we coordinate every step so you have one trusted team from first conversation to long-term support.

Who do you help?

We support homeowners, families and carers adapting their homes after a life-changing diagnosis, injury or changing mobility needs. We also work closely with occupational therapists, case managers, solicitors, insurers, local authorities and other healthcare professionals.

I don’t know where to start. Can you help?

Absolutely. Many people come to us before they know what adaptations they need. We’ll listen to your situation, explain the options available and help you understand the best next steps, whether that’s an occupational therapy assessment, funding advice or a home consultation.

Why do you use the John Ford Group 7 Step Proven Process?

We’ve developed our 7-Step Proven Process from years of helping families navigate what can often feel like a complex and overwhelming journey. We know that successful home adaptations involve far more than building work - they require the right clinical advice, funding, thoughtful design, specialist equipment and careful coordination between multiple professionals.
Our proven process brings every stage together in the right order, with one trusted team guiding you from first conversation to long-term support. It reduces uncertainty, keeps everyone involved aligned and ensures nothing is overlooked, helping deliver the best possible outcome for both today and the future.

Do I need an occupational therapist before contacting you?

No. Many of our clients come to us before they've spoken to an occupational therapist. If you already have an OT, we'll happily work alongside them. If you don't, we'll arrange for the most appropriate specialist occupational therapist from our trusted network of specialist OTs, ensuring you receive expert advice that's tailored to your condition, current needs and future goals.

Can you help with funding?

Yes. We provide independent guidance on the different funding routes available, including Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs), insurers, litigation funding and private investment. We’ll help you understand the options available and coordinate with everyone involved throughout the process.

Do you manage the whole project?

Yes. We coordinate the entire process - from initial planning and design through to specialist equipment, contractors and final completion - keeping you informed every step of the way with one dedicated point of contact.

What kinds of home adaptations do you support?

Every home and every person’s needs are different. We help with everything from accessible bathrooms and level access solutions to lifts, hoists, home extensions, internal remodelling and complete future-proofing programmes. Our recommendations are always based on your individual needs rather than a standard list of products.

Can you work with my existing healthcare professionals?

Absolutely. We regularly work alongside occupational therapists, architects, case managers, solicitors, insurers and healthcare teams, ensuring everyone stays aligned and informed throughout the project.

Will I have to leave my home during the work?

Often, no. Wherever possible, projects are carefully planned around everyday life to minimise disruption. If temporary arrangements are needed, we’ll discuss them with you well in advance and help coordinate the process.

Do you only work on large adaptation projects?

Not at all. Some clients need a single adaptation to improve everyday independence, while others require a complete home transformation. We tailor our support to your circumstances, providing the same level of care and coordination regardless of project size.

What areas do you cover?

We’re based in Chelmsford and work across Essex and the surrounding counties, including London. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, simply get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.

Why choose John Ford Group instead of a specialist builder?

Because adapting a home is about much more than construction. It involves understanding clinical needs, coordinating healthcare professionals, exploring funding, planning for the future and managing every stage with care. We bring all of those elements together, giving you one trusted team and one clear journey from diagnosis or changing needs to a home that supports life today and tomorrow.

If you’d like to talk through a specific situation or project, contact one of our team today to discuss your options and best next steps. We look forward to hearing from you.
